BECHTEL, Barbara – of Montrose, age 92, went peacefully home to Heaven on Monday, September 1, 2025, at her residence surrounded by the love of her family. Honoring her wishes, cremation will take place and a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Barb was born June 19, 1933, in Flint, to the late Hugh and Marie (Gilbert) McGlinchey. She graduated from Dye High School in Flint, and was a proud, hardworking stay-at-home mother for much of her life. On March 22, 1952, she married the love of her life and best friend, Walter Bechtel, and together they shared 65 years of marriage. She was a faithful member of the Community of Christ Church in Clio where her husband pastored for many years. During her younger years, Barbara enjoyed being outdoors tending to her flower gardens and she found solace in making ceramics and painting. Above all, Barb loved her family dearly and cherished her time spent with them.
Barbara is forever loved by: Children: Larry (Robin) Bechtel and Debra (John) Nye; Grandchildren: Stacie (Paul), Amy, Ginelle (Joel), Jenny (Kurt), Jacob (Heather), Anna (Mitch), and Brandy; Many beloved great grandchildren; Brother, Hugh (Susie) McGlinchey, Jr.; Several nieces, nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends. Barbara was preceded in death by: Husband, Walter; Daughter, Charlene McClintock; Parents, Hugh Sr. and Marie; Sisters: Louise and Charlotte.
