Barbara Benge Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barnes-Friederich & Pope Funeral Home - Midwest City on May 9, 2025.
Barbara Kay Benge was born in Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland on January 23, 1956, to her parents, Albert Houston Benge and Kathryn Lee Benge (Bennett). Barbara passed from this life on Sunday, March 30, 2025. She was preceded in death by a brother, born in 1958, who lived less than one day and by her father and mother. She is survived by her brother Mark Benge and his wife Jamie Benge and by her brother Joe Benge. She is also survived by her nephews, Chase Benge and wife Meg, Josh Benge and wife Whitney and their children, Makenzie, Luke and Kate, Tyler Benge and Matthew Benge. She is survived by nieces, Kacie Cook and husband Cody and their children, Caden and Kyler and Beckie Choate and husband Corbin and their children, Olivia, Benjamin and Paisley.
She was the child of a navy officer and lived in various ports including Washington, DC, the Philippines, Hawaii and various stations in California. After Dad's retirement from the navy, they lived in Stillwater, OK and then Broken Arrow, OK. She graduated from Broken Arrow High School on May 27, 1975. After high school she had vocational training at A New Leaf and Children's Medical Center in Tulsa, OK. Later she completed the McJobs Training Program in 1988.
She was a lifelong Caregiver and lived with and cared for Amy Snelson, a friend and MS patient from 1987 until 1999. Always a Caregiver, she lived with her parents when they retired to 40 acres in Arcadia, OK where she helped them raise Arabian horses, goats, chickens and other pets. She stayed with them when they downsized in 2007 to 40 acres in Stillwater, Oklahoma. They lived there for 10 years and hosted many gatherings of family and friends. Barbara was always helping and cooked many great meals. Barbara love doing crafts and enjoyed doing cross stitch, crocheting and knitting. She made many baby blankets that are still enjoyed today. When Dad passed in 2017, Barbara and Katy moved to Midwest City where they created a home and became close friends and companions. In 2021, Barbara and Katy decided they wanted to move into Arbor House Assisted Living where several other members of First Christian Church were residents. Barbara was very involved in the facility activities program. She loved puzzles, bingo and other social activities. If there was something going on, Barbara was there.
Barbara was a loving aunt and great aunt who was proud of all of her nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Just last week, she went shopping for Easter gifts for the grands. She loved to shop. She was a giving person and will be greatly missed by many friends, by the residents and staff at Arbor House and by her loving family.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, April 5 at the First Christian Church of Midwest City.
