It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Bermel, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world on December 27, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on April 17, 1949, Barbara will be remembered for her warm spirit, unwavering dedication, and passion for life.
A proud mother to her son, Michael Bermel (Frances), daughter, Denise Startare (Peter), and son, Steven Bermel (Alison), Barbara cherished her role as a matriarch. She took great joy in the accomplishments of her grandchildren: Luke Weber, Bruce Bermel, Frank Bermel, Jay Bermel, Aubrie Bermel, and Avery Zakreski, whose lives she touched with love and guidance.
Barbara was a devoted member of her church community. Her faith was central to her life, and she enjoyed participating in Bible Study, where she formed cherished friendships and shared her wisdom. She was known for her generous spirit, giving freely of her resources to support missionary causes that were close to her heart. In addition to her faith, Barbara had a vibrant personality. She loved to dance, particularly ballroom dancing, where she expressed her joy and grace on the dance floor. Gardening was another of her passions; she found peace among the blooms and often delighted in caring for the birds that frequented her garden. Her family and friends will always remember Barbara and her love of reading. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Barbara is survived by her brothers Robert Loftis and Wayne Loftis, and sister Glenda Loftis, who will carry her memory in their hearts as they remember her kindness and compassion.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 noon. Burial will be private.
