Almena Taylor Simon

Almena Taylor Simon, 82, wife of Charles T. "Tom" Simon, passed into glory peacefully, at her home, with her family surrounding her, on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Charles and Carrie Elizabeth "Sammie" Bingham Taylor.
A 1961 graduate of Greenville High School, she was an active member of Northgate Baptist Church. She loved children and was on the board of the Meyer Center. Almena was employed at Hollis Developmental and J.L. Mann High School as a teachers aide. She loved estate sales and also working estate sales.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Almena's caregivers who became family: Carrie Evans, Annie Sue Jones, and Lynn Satterwhite.
In addition to her husband of 59 years, she is survived by her daughter, Natalie Spray and her husband, Patrick; two grandchildren, Madison Sara Spray and Lindie Jane Spray; her sister Debbie Demore and her husband, Howard; and sister-in-law, Nancy Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Taylor Simon; and brother Bobby Taylor.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, with the funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
