Skippy "Skip" Jerry Townsend, beloved father, grandfather,great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on August 18, 1938, in
Alma, Georgia, Skip lived a life rich with passion and purpose, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
After serving his country honorably in the U.S. Navy, Skip pursued his education with dedication, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree from Clemson University while juggling the responsibilities of family life. He became a respected electrical engineer in the telephone industry, known for his technical skills and collaborative spirit.
Skip's love for learning extended beyond his profession; he found joy in reading, woodworking, and solving puzzles and word games. His creativity and keen intellect were evident in every project he undertook, and he shared this passion with those around him, inspiring many to explore their own interests.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Neil and Inez Townsend; his beloved wife of 56 years, Evelyn Wells Townsend; his son, Randy Townsend; as well as his older brother, Roger Townsend.
Skip is survived by his devoted family, including his daughters, Debbie Crowe (Kenny) and DeeAnn Medlin (Matt); his cherished grandchildren, Tara Allen, Brad Crowe, Lindsey Lowe, McCauley Medlin, AnnDee Medlin, and Luke Townsend; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Townsend; and his sister, Pat Welch.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will be private.
