Mrs. Barbara Jean Bird Leftwich, age 87 of Cana, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Leftwich was born on May 16, 1938, in Carroll County, to the late Sanford James Bird and Nannie Leara Jones Bird. Granny was a very picky eater, and everything tasted “raunchy”. She loved collectibles and going window shopping and her favorite two holidays were Thanksgiving and Christmas. Surviving are her two daughters and a son-in-law, Cynthia Leftwich York and Charles; and Kim Leftwich; three sons, Johnny Leftwich, Ricky Leftwich, and Preston Leftwich; eight grandchildren, Angie Leftwich Rodrigue and Nicky, Michael Leftwich and Jessica, Latonya York Fulton and Sedric, Amber Leftwich Brannock and Bryan, Courtney York Dollyhite and Matt, Charlotte York Harper and Pat, Devin Leftwich and Caitlin, and Chuckie York and Lexus; eighteen great-grandchildren, and one on the way; three great great grandchildren and one on the way; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Becky and Frankie Saldana, and Bonnie and Michael Combs; sister-in-law, Jeannette Byrd; special family friends, Jamie Winfree, Jan Goins, Sonia Bryant, and Kayla Jones; two special fur babies, Princeton and Daisy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Leftwich was preceded in death by her husband, John Clisba Leftwich; and a brother Bobby Byrd. Funeral services will be held on Monday February 2, 2026, at 2:00pm in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Rev. Gary Easter officiating. Burial will follow in the Leftwich Family Cemetery in Cana, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00 – 2:00pm at Moodys. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
