Mrs. Jerallene Haynes Vernon, age 75, of Mt. Airy, completed her earthly life and went to meet her heavenly Father on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Duke University Hospital in Durham. She was born on August 24, 1950 in Surry County to the late Carl and Mertha Hill Haynes. She was a humble soul who loved God and her family. She was always ready to help others in the community and loved her job at Surry County Human Services. She also loved attending basketball and baseball games for all her family members, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Vernon was of the Baptist Faith. She was a loving wife, mother , and grandmother who will surely be missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years, Kent Mitchell Vernon; children, Anessa Vernon, Travis Vernon (Jasmine); grandchildren, Tanner Vernon, Taylor Vernon, Aidan Vernon, and Toby Vernon; beloved sisters, Carlene Atkins (Kenneth), Becky Haynes as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Mrs. Vernon was preceded in death by a son, Kent Vernon Jr; sister, Kathy Sue Haynes; father and mother-in-law Oliver and Doris Vernon. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with service conducted by Rev. Arlis Thomas. Burial will follow in Laurel Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time for the service at the funeral home.
