Barbara Block

MONROE TOWNSHIP - BARBARA BLOCK passed away peacefully on Monday, December 29, 2025, at her home in Monroe Township, New Jersey. She was 93 years old.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Barbara was the daughter of Irving and Hilda Lang (née Weisbrot). She later made her home in Monroe Township and spent many years living in Boca Raton, Florida. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Jerome Block, who passed away in 2014.
Barbara was the heart of family gatherings, where her warmth, generosity, and love brought everyone together. She took great joy in hosting and celebrating large family events, creating moments filled with laughter, connection, and lasting memories that spanned generations.
She was outgoing, fun-loving, and deeply social, cherishing time spent with family and friends. Whether enjoying a well-loved gin and tonic or a glass of Merlot, Barbara embraced life fully. An avid traveler, she explored the world alongside her husband Jerry and their closest friends.
Barbara was also a dynamic and accomplished professional, with a long and respected career in restaurant management. She was known for overseeing some of New York City's most elite corporate event spaces.
She was deeply committed to philanthropy and community involvement. Barbara was a long-standing supporter of the American Cancer Society, including Wine & Roses and other fundraising efforts, and was actively involved in supporting Chabad of Monroe at Gravel Hill Road. Giving back was a core part of who she was.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Deborah and Neal Sroka; her son, Monte and Linda Block; daughter, Ilysa and Dr. Mark Heiberger; her grandchildren, Illana and Jason Lebersfeld, Heath and Abby Sroka, Bradley and Lindsay Block, Shannon and Bryan McCormick, Jourdan and Stacey Block, Amanda and Matt Wolchuck, and Daryll Heiberger; and her great-grandchildren, Gracie, Addison, Charlotte, Matthew, Ava, Harlie, Gemma, Jayden, Harlan, Walker, Jax, Chandler, and Nolan.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. at Beth David Cemetery, 300 Elmont Road, Elmont, New York, under the direction of Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick, New Jersey. Directions are available under the "Events" section.
As we honor and remember Barbara, we kindly ask that, in lieu of food or flowers, you keep our family in your thoughts and prayers. In keeping with Jewish tradition, and in a way that reflects Barbara's life and values, donations in her honor may be made to either Chabad, in support of building a synagogue in Monroe, New Jersey, or to Wine & Roses (American Cancer Society). Both organizations were meaningful to Barbara and Jerry and supported by them for many years. This was one of her final requests.
