Barbara Boyd Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home - Huntsville on Mar. 9, 2026.
Barbara Allene (Lewis) Boyd, age 81, of Huntsville, Texas, was born on July 13, 1944, in Buckholts, Texas. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 6, 2026, peacefully at her home in Huntsville.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Wilford Bedford and Dollie Florence Lewis.

She attended Hitchcock High School in Hitchcock, Texas, where she was captain of the basketball team, head cheerleader, and homecoming queen. After graduating in 1962, Barbara began her career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Texas City, Texas, marking the start of a dedicated 30-year career with the company.

On November 17, 1962, Barbara married her high school sweetheart, David Jack Boyd. Together they shared a beautiful marriage of 63 years, building a life centered on faith, love, and family.

Barbara was known for her outgoing spirit, kindness, and loving heart. She was a steady presence to those around her, a devoted prayer warrior, and a constant witness for Jesus. She found joy in playing various card and board games, especially 'Up & Down the River' and 'Wahoo'. She enjoyed baking cookies (especially for her grandkids), tending to her flowers, and loved spending cherished time with family and friends.

She leaves behind her loving husband, David Jack Boyd; her son, David Lee Boyd and wife Kelly of La Porte, Texas; her daughters, Kimberly Denelle Meverden and husband Andrew of Crofton, Maryland, and Kristi Lynn Perkins of Conroe, Texas. Barbara was incredibly proud of her grandchildren: Calen Boyd, Mason Boyd, Luke Gibson, Emma Meverden, Alexander Meverden, Matthew Perkins, Corinne Perkins, and Rigo Perkins Gonzales.

She is also survived by her brother, James Bedford "J.B." Lewis and wife Diana of Fairfield, Texas, and his children, James, Mike, Cheryl, Cindy and Bobby; her sister, Judy Edwards and husband Robert of Rockdale, Texas, and their children, Thomas and Karen; and her brother, Wilford Byron Lewis and wife Kay of Henderson, Texas, and his daughters, Jennifer and Jessica.

A memorial service celebrating the outstanding life of Barbara Allene Boyd will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 Normal Park Drive, Huntsville, Texas 77340. The family will receive friends and loved ones beginning at 12:00 PM. Memorial condolences may be made to the family at www.shmfh.com.
