Barbara Briley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 18, 2023.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Barbara Soileau Briley at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at St. Theresa Catholic Chapel in St. Landry followed by burial at St. Theresa Cemetery. Barbara passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Opelousas General Hospital. She was born on April 26, 1932, in Grand Prairie to the late Edgar and Pearl Soileau. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and great-grandmother who adored spending time with her family. She loved gardening, traveling, and visiting with family and friends. Barbara would proudly show off her yard and beautiful flowers any time she entertained others at her home. She was a shining example of what a Catholic woman should be. Barbara is fondly remembered by her family as a firecracker whose laughter was contagious and was a joy to be around.

She is survived by daughters, Judy Yielding (Carl) and Susan Tortorich (Walter) of St. Landry; step-daughter, Sonya Ayo (Ernest) of St. Francisville; step-son, Mark Briley (Melissa) of Grand Prairie; step-daughter-in-law, Charlene Briley of Plaisance; grandchildren, Kim, Kerri, Brandon, Betsy, Ben, and John; step-grandchildren, Jaimee, Jeanne-Marie, Jonathan, Jodi, Laurie, Nicole, Steven, and Scott; many great-grandchildren; and sister, Yvonne Landry (Eli).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Pearl Soileau; husbands, Elton Soileau and Archie Briley; Brother, Edgar “Jesse” Soileau; sisters, Ruth Norris, Mary Delafosse, and Pearl Fontenot; step-son, Miles Briley; and one step-granddaughter, Jennifer.

Visitation will be held from 3:00-8:00 PM on Monday, April 10, 2023, at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte and a Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM.
