Barbara Joyce Burak

Barbara Joyce Burak entered the presence of her Savior on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at the age of 88. Her last weeks and final hours were both spent with her family by her side.

Barbara was born on November 5, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan, a daughter of Bernard R. and Dorothy (nee Kinsey) Anderson. Barbara graduated from Almont High School in 1954 and on November 11, 1967, she married William (Bill) Burak. They built a home together on the farm where William was raised and lived their entire lives, raising four children, on that same property.

Barbara's personal relationship with Jesus Christ was the sole foundation for her hope in this life and eternity. As a young woman, she began teaching children's church, sharing her faith with hundreds of children during their formative years. She also worked at The Pincushion in Imlay City, Michigan for more than 20 years, instilling a love of quilting into many women, while also sharing her faith and life experiences with customers and students. Barbara was a founding and faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Romeo and supported the ministry at Grace for many years before her health declined.

Barbara loved and prioritized her husband and family. She served as a faithful partner to Bill for 31 years, supporting his love of farming and family, and being a wonderful helpmate to him as he experienced the side effects of Type 1 Diabetes. From the moment they were born, she prayed for all of her children and grandchildren (and their future spouses), that they would serve the Lord with their whole hearts and live faith-filled lives. A fiercely independent woman, Barbara lived as a widow after Bill's passing in 1999 and maintained the farm and her home until a few months before her passing. She loved her home, hosting many family gatherings and cooking meals that her children and grandchildren will always remember.

Barbara is survived by her children: Sara (Patrick) Brown, Andy (Leah) Burak, Jon (Stephanie) Burak, and Aaron (Allison) Burak; grandchildren Allison, Max (Samantha), Britta, Judah, Jessa, Justin, Anna, Lydia, Toby, Travis and Lainey Burak; and Casey, Ryan, and Sophia Brown. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, William Burak, sister Margaret Lepard, parents Bernard and Dorothy Anderson, and grandson Noah Brown.

A visitation for Barbara will be held Sunday, September 14, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 172 West Lafayette St. Romeo, MI. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. with instate starting at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025 at Grace Baptist Church. Following the service, a private burial will take place for Barbara.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to Grace Baptist Church, Romeo, Michigan.
