Barbara Caron Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Barbara Ann Caron (née Conley) of the Cascades in St. Lucie West, Florida, was born in
Portland, Maine on April 22, 1938, and serenely passed away on August 29, 2025, at the age of 87.
She was born and raised in Portland, Maine, and while attending Portland High School, she
served as head majorette in the high school band. She graduated from high school in 1956.
In 1962, Barbara met her future husband, Albert Caron, who was visiting his hometown of
Westbrook.
There was an instant mutual attraction between them, and they married shortly
thereafter in June of 1963. Together they purchased their first home in Tiverton, Rhode Island
near her husband's workplace at the naval base in Newport, Rhode Island. Barbara continued her
previous occupation as an elite telephone operator in Fall River, Massachusetts while her
husband progressed in his engineering career at the Department of Defense.
Over the next several years, they were blessed with three children: Saundra, James, and Cynthia in that order.
Saundra Colvin is a teacher in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; James Caron is a director of
outpatient physical therapy in Lakewood Ranch, Florida; and Cynthia Hedberg is a teacher and
lives in Standish, Maine.
Refreshingly honest, fiercely protective of her family, and often comically blunt, Barbara was a
force of nature. However, she was also an exceedingly tender, loving, and compassionate wife,
mother, and friend. Barbara adeptly assumed the role of an old school traditional mother who
excelled in the practical arts of cooking, sewing, and parenting. She was a passionate, talented
cook who enjoyed entertaining during her husband's professional career and post-retirement life.
She was also a strong advocate and participant in school affairs and activities while her children
attended Wilbur & McMahon Schools in Little Compton, Rhode Island.
Barbara was universally loved and respected, and she will be genuinely missed by all who knew
her. Her laughter was infectious; her personality was captivating; and her lifestyle was
wholesome. What a woman and what a loss! She and Albert built a wonderful life and marriage
that spanned 62 years. Barbara was predeceased by her only sibling, Richard Conley. In
addition to Albert and their three adult children, Barbara leaves behind five grandchildren: Mac,
Megan, Alyssa, Jack, and Elise.
