In 1967, she graduated a year early with Honors from Meigs High School, the first Black American High School in Nashville. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard Lee Cartwright, February 19th, 1969. From that union they were blessed with a daughter, Jinger Alexia, and a son, and Richard Lee, Jr.
She was always a loving and compassionate person. When tragedy struck, first with the loss of her father and later with the loss of her mother, Barbara Jean and her husband helped to rear her two younger brothers. Throughout her life, she continued to open her home and her heart to those in need.
She worked in various administrative roles in real estate and insurance before beginning her career with the State of South Carolina. She retired after 26 years of working under the administration of two South Carolina State Governors, the SC Department of Transportation, and the SC University system.
She obtained her Associates of Secretarial Science from the Hume-Fogg School in Nashville, TN and in 1991 obtained a degree in the Teaching Ministry from Rhema Bible Training Center, Tulsa, OK. Her ministry pursuits led her to serve in a support and administrative role in Liberia, West Africa on two separate six-month missionary tours.
Barbara was a longtime member of Daniel Circle Chapel in Columbia, SC and later joined Tabernacle of Praise Christian Fellowship of Columbia, South Carolina pastored by Harry R. Reed, Jr. This remained her church home until her departure.
Barbara is preceded in death by her Father, James William Beasley, Sr.; Mother, Leila Francis Beasley; and two brothers, Charles E. Beasley, Sr. & Anthony J. Beasley, Sr. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, two Daughters; Jinger A. Burton, of Houston, TX , Rebekah E. Cartwright, of Dickinson, ND ; and a Son, Richard L. Cartwright, Jr., of Dickinson, ND; seven Grandchildren, Gabriel A. Cartwright, Rachel E. Cartwright, Caleb B. L. Cartwright, Michael I. Cartwright, Noah E. Cartwright, Jeremiah B. Beasley, Sr. (June); very close Cousin, Joyce Anthony Valentine (John M.), a host of favorite Nephews and Nieces, other relatives and very close Family and Friends.
Barbara was an avid student of the Word of God and enthusiastic teacher of the Gospel. She was a worshipper of God. Her home was always open to those in need. Because of her generosity, obedience to God, and love for others, Barbara was blessed with countless extended family in the Body of Christ. She was a woman of faith. Her legacy is her family.
