Barbara Cersine Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapels - Edina on Feb. 18, 2026.
Barbara Ann (Lawrenson) Cersine

Barbara Cersine, longtime resident of Edina, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 14 at the age of 88. Barb was born November 8, 1937, in Fergus Falls, MN to Ernest and Agnes Lawrenson. After graduating from Roosevelt Park High School, Barb attended Cottey College in Neveda, Missouri. She then transferred to St. Cloud State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. While at St. Cloud she met her husband and love of her life, Roger Cersine. They married August 22,1959. Barb taught 3rd grade in North Minneapolis for 4 years until she and Roger decided to start a family. When their kids were grown, Barb decided to return to work and enjoyed working at Korner Plaza, Company's Coming, and Bystrom Brothers.

Barb was a long-time member of Lake Harriet United Methodist Church and a member of the Edina Women's Club. However, it was her membership and involvement in the P.E.O. Sisterhood that gave her so much joy. Barb was a long-time member of Chapter AF. She served as P.E.O. State President from 1996-1997. She also served on the P.E.O. International Board of Trustees for the Educational Loan Fund and on the P.E.O. International Nominating Committee.

Barb enjoyed summers at the family cabin on Burntside Lake in Ely, and her treasured annual trips with her daughter and granddaughters up to the Ely Blueberry Arts Festival every July. She was an avid reader who enjoyed mystery novels, a devoted watcher of Days of Our Lives, and she enjoyed her weekly jaunt to Panera in Edina to meet her 'posse' - all who came to mean so much to her over the years. Barb had a wonderful circle of friends whom she cherished so much. Most of all, Barb deeply loved her family, especially her two granddaughters who were the absolute joys her life.

Barb was preceded in death by her husband of over 62 years, Roger Cersine, her parents, sisters Juneal Schroeder and Idell Lawrenson, and her beloved dog Bo. She is survived by her son Michael Cersine (Rita), daughter Amy Smith (Jerry), and her precious granddaughters Jeannie Smith (special friend Cris Welch), and Jackie Smith (special friend Sam Guite). In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the P.E.O. Foundation, P.E.O. Chapter AF, or Lake Harriet UMC.

Barbie-Doll, Grandmops, Barbzilla, Mommy-O ... whatever you called her, Barb was a perfect example of kindness, generosity, and how to be a good friend. She was the best wife, mom, and grandma anyone could ever ask for, and we will always 'love her more and most'. A party to celebrate Barb's life will be held at a future date.
