Barbara Ann Bannister Charo, 82, of Helotes, Texas, was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on April 10, 2025, after a faithful journey and life well lived. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Mission Park North Dominion.
Barbara Ann was born to Rae Dan Ferry and Francis M. Bannister on January 4, 1943, in Jerico Springs, Missouri. The eldest of 5 children, she spent her early years surrounded by family and often looked after her younger brothers and sisters. Barbara graduated from Brackenridge high school in 1961 and later pursued her associates degree at Palo Alto College.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Frank Burzynski, her mother Rae, father Francis, brother Leo, and sister Lucille.
Barbara worked at USAA for over 34 years serving in many different roles, including Executive Assistant to the Chief Legal Counsel, a position she held with pride and grace. Her strong work ethic, excellence and integrity earned her great respect. She would often fondly reflect on her years at USAA. She was honored to have attended and supported numerous board meetings all over the world.
More than anything, Barbara cherished time spent with family and friends. She was loved by all who knew her. She had a beautiful, adventurous spirit and generous heart. She enjoyed sharing her words of wisdom and never hesitated to help those in need. The holidays were her favorite time of year. Easter mornings started with sunrise service followed by time with family and Easter egg hunts for all her grandchildren. At Thanksgiving, she made the world's best homemade turkey cornbread dressing and gravy. During the Christmas season, she would decorate every room in the house, often with multiple Christmas trees, and make homemade cookies galore. Her passion for learning and strengthening her faith continued well into her retirement, learning to play the piano in her 70s and faithfully attending Bible Study Fellowship with her sister, Lucy, and niece, Pam.
Though her mind grew quiet in her final months as she fiercely fought the progression of Alzheimer's, she now rejoices in perfect clarity and peace with her Savior. Her memory and love will live on through her surviving children Michael Charo and Michelle Muzquiz (Armando), grandchildren Michael Charo Jr (Martha), Justin Charo, Steven Charo (Cheyenne), Aiden Charo, Mason Muzquiz, Clarissa Muzquiz, great-granddaughter Lilith "Lil Lil" Charo, brother Francis Bannister, and sister Linda Garces, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
