Barbara Wilkerson Coomes, 79, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital with her family by her side. She was born July 20, 1937 in Philpot to the late Clem and Zelma Wilkerson, the youngest of six siblings that also have preceded her in death. Barbara was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church for 58 years. She was a wonderful homemaker and an avid bunco player for over 50 years. She loved her indoor plants, cooking, going on facebook, and her social events. Barbara never met a stranger and was described by most as a very sweet and kind lady. Above all, she loved her family and was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Those left behind to cherish her memory are, the love of her life for 62 years, husband James, daughters, Pam Riney and husband Chuck of Charlotte, N.C. and Carla Schafer of Atlanta, GA, and her son, Jimmy Coomes and wife Georgia of Owensboro. Barbara was lovingly known as "Memaw" to her grandchildren, Chaz (Sara) Riney, J. W. (Carrie) Riney, Kristen (Paul David) Hayden, Clayton (Megan) Riney, Jordan (Chelsea) Coomes, Sally (Mike) Springob, and Sarah and Maggie Riney, and Sydney and Ellen Schafer. Her great grandchildren held a very special place in her heart, Parker, Charlie, Sam, Kate, Abbi, Lucy, Weston, Will, Josie, Max, Jacob, and Claire. Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 3, at St. Pius X Catholic Church with burial following in Rersurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Friday with prayers at 6:00 P.M. and from 8:30-9:30 A.M. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences to the family may be placed at www.glenncares.com. The family would like to give a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Critical Care Unit at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for their wonderful care of "Barb, Mom, and Memaw".

Dear James, Pam, Jimmy, Carla and family, I know your hearts are broken and there are no words to change that. My prayer is that in the days and weeks ahead you will find comfort, peace, and eventually joy that she passed from your loving embrace right into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. She had such a full love-filled life and now she has won her Heavenly place...a journey we all hope to win eventually! Much love to all of you! My heart is sad for all that you are going through...she was a beautiful and graceful lady always. (((HUGS)))

So sorry for your loss. She was such a sweet, kind lady; and a dear friend to my mother (Dorothy Payne). I saw her just a few weeks ago when she stopped by to check on mom. Love and prayers to all of you.
