Barbara Cornejo passed away on September 25, 2025 in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 91. Born in Veracruz, Mexico, on December 5, 1933, Barbara moved to the United States at the age of 16. She married Alberto John Cornejo and the couple made their home in Wellington, Kansas. She was a spirited woman with a witty sense of humor that endeared her to many. Barbara was an excellent cook, working in the restaurant business for over 40 years. She made a name for herself at Country Acres, Scotsman, and the Homestead and also ran her own restaurant, The Connoisseur, in downtown Wellington.

In her retirement, Barbara developed a love for Bingo, often playing at the American Legion and VFW. She also enjoyed bus tours to various parts of the country and looked forward to visiting her daughter in Louisiana. She was committed to raising her family and remaining together as much as possible. As such, holidays were an important time for Barbara; she cherished these moments to gather the family together. Barbara will be remembered for her resilience, her spirited nature, and her witty charm.

She is survived by her daughter, Lupe Vaughn (Phillip) of Wellington, Kansas; daughter, Sandra Volm (Jerry) of Wichita, Kansas; son, Albert Cornejo, Jr. (Jessica) of Wellington, Kansas; daughter, Patsy Taylor (Lannon) of Wellington, Kansas; daughter, Susie Cornejo (Andy Bustos) of Dodge City, Kansas; daughter, Judy Roussan of Lincoln, Nebraska; son, Mark Cornejo (JoAnn) of Round Rock, Texas; son, Mathew Cornejo (Kristi) of Wichita, Kansas; son, Jamie Cornejo (Maria) of Wellington, Kansas; daughter, Mary Ellen Clark (Todd) of Jacksonville, Florida; son, Rob Cornejo of Wichita, Kansas; sister, Helen Jimenez of Wellington, Kansas; brother, Augustine Soria of California; 42 grandchildren; and over 60 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Sotero and Josefa Soria; husband, Alberto Cornejo; an infant daughter, Estella Cornejo; brother, Benjamin Soria; and an infant granddaughter, Lorena.

A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m, Tuesday evening at St. Anthony St. Rose Catholic Church.

Funeral Mass for Barbara will begin at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at St. Anthony St. Rose Catholic Church, Wellington, Kansas. Interment will follow at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington, Kansas.

Memorial contributions can be given in her name to Operation Holiday or the Avenue of Flags. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
