Barbara Jean Correa, a beacon of unwavering love and the quintessential matriarch, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, in Garden City, Michigan. Born on October 23, 1956, in Wayne, Michigan, Barbara's journey through life was marked by her deep-seated devotion to her family, her joyous spirit, and her remarkable ability to solve any problem that came her way.
Barbara's early life in Wayne set the stage for a legacy of warmth and inclusivity. Though she was predeceased by her parents, Shirley and Irving Morgan, and siblings Alice (Bill), Rosemary, and Cliff, her life was a testament to the strength and resilience inherited from her family. Barbara's legacy is carried forward through her beloved children: Jamie (Nathan) Bowen, James (Jen) Parker, Tiffany (Charles) Shattelroe, Sara (Todd Brozowski) Correa, and Renea Correa. She was a proud and adoring Grammie to her cherished grandchildren: Grace, Luke, Jack, Abbie, StellaMae, Sydney, Madison, Klay, Kyra Jean, Kolton, Elijah, and Ezabella.
Barbara's siblings, Patty (Pete), Kaybea, Lloyd, Diane, and John, and many nieces, nephews and greats will fondly remember her for her selflessness and thoughtful nature. She had a special bond with each of them, a connection that was deeply rooted in mutual love and respect.
In every role she played, Barbara was the epitome of compassion and understanding. Her family knew her as the problem solver, the one who showed up without fail, and the one who made sure everything that needed to be done, was done. Her home was the hub of family gatherings, and her presence was a comforting constant. As the perfect matriarch, Barbara never missed a moment in her grandkids' lives, earning her the title of a very proud Grammie.
Barbara's garden and yard were her sanctuaries, places where she found immense joy and peace. She poured love into every flower and plant, creating a space of beauty and tranquility that reflected her inner serenity. An avid reader, Barbara's tastes ranged from the imaginative realms of science fiction to the heart-racing suspense of thrillers, with a touch of romance to sweeten the mix.
Her culinary skills were legendary, especially her ribs, which became a family and friends' favorite. She was also renowned for making Katie's Candy, a treat that brought smiles to many faces. Barbara's love for the vibrant color red was evident in the various hues that adorned her life, from her clothes to the decor in her home.
A Pepsi was never far from Barbara's reach, and her family fondly recalls the playful theft of her drink by her children, ensuring that, ironically, while she opened many, she would only finish one. Her beautiful hair and her blunt, no-nonsense attitude were as much a part of her as her resilience and caring nature.
Barbara's absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her memory will be a guiding light for her family. Described as resilient, compassionate, caring, and understanding, she was the embodiment of selflessness and thoughtfulness. Her spirit will continue to thrive in the hearts of those she touched, and the love she shared will ripple through generations to come.
As we bid farewell to Barbara Jean Correa, we celebrate a life lived with boundless love, unwavering dedication to family, and a legacy of kindness that will forever be cherished.
