Barbara H. Couey, age 87, passed away on April 14th, 2024 surrounded by her family.
Barbara (Babs, Barbie, Nanny) was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She loved to travel, was an avid bowler, and enjoyed playing euchre with family and friends. She could often be found reading late at night, and never started her day without a good cup of coffee. She was a talented licensed cosmetologist for 68 years, and never turned down a plate of spaghetti.
Always fun-loving, Barbara brought joy and laughter to everyone she met. Barbara will be remembered for her quick wit, zest for life, and ability to love unconditionally. She was open-minded and accepting of others. Barbara never met a stranger, but instead greeted everyone as if they were old friends.
Barbara was a strong supporter of her children's activities at UD Jesuit and Mercy High School.
Barbara is survived by her four deeply loved children: Robin, Brian, Dawn (Dean Monterosso), and Diane Couey; her beloved granddaughter Amber Monterosso (Ryan Walker); her brother-in-law Mike Sims; and multiple nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Darrell Couey, her dear sister Denise (Malley) Sims, her brother Larry Malley, and her parents Albert and Mary (Inloes) Malley.
Her absence will be sorely felt by everyone who has known her, but her love will live on. As Barbara always used to say: "This too shall pass."
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
