Norman Edwin Confer, age 69, passed away on January 30, 2026. He was born on February 19, 1956.
Norman grew up in
Warren, Michigan. As a young adult, he moved to Georgia to start a new company and enjoy the beautiful weather it had to offer. In 1987, he married Karen, and she joined him in Lawrenceville, Georgia. In 1992, they returned to Michigan, settling in Troy, where they lived for the past 33 years, building a life centered on family, perseverance, and love.
Norman owned and operated a small business for many years and was a dedicated entrepreneur. He was hardworking, independent, and deeply proud of the life he built through determination and grit.
In 2005, Norman was diagnosed with cancer, an illness that permanently changed his body but never his spirit. Complications from treatment left him with lasting health challenges, including the loss of his voice and lifelong dependence on a feeding tube. Despite this, Norm never complained and refused to let his limitations define him. He remained one of the strongest people, mentally and physically, known to those closest to him.
Norm lived life to the absolute fullest. He was known for his sense of adventure and the unforgettable stories that followed him. Snow skiing, snowmobiling, water skiing, scuba diving, softball, hunting, and fishing were not just hobbies, but a way of life. From snow skiing off cliffs, to backcountry snowmobiling, to being left behind at sea during a scuba diving trip, Norm embraced life boldly and without fear. Neither cancer nor disability ever slowed him down.
Norm was a loving and deeply involved father. He gave Abby and Eric the gift of experiencing this incredible country, traveling across 47 states, visiting national parks, and showing up for countless little league games, softball games, recitals, and activities of every kind.
Norman is survived by his loving wife, Karen Confer; daughter, Abby Schnelz (Steven); son, Eric Confer; and cherished granddaughter, Addison Mae Schnelz. He is also survived by his brothers John Confer (Dianna), Ray Confer (Wendy), Ted Confer (Lucy); sister, Margaret Lee; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Donald and Phyllis Confer, and siblings, Donna Dietrich, Kenneth Confer and Mary Zalewski.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, March 10, at 6:00PM at Crank's Catering 46915 Hayes Rd. Shelby Twp. MI 48315.
