Barbara Jean Smith, age 78, lovingly known as Jean, was born September 12, 1945 in Morristown, Tennessee to John Anderson and Nannie Bible Cox. Jean was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 12, 2024. She was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Jean felt blessed to call beautiful Jefferson County her lifelong home, where she treasured her special relationships with her immediate family, aunts and uncles, and many cousins. She loved her family dearly, and it was her joy to care for them. Over her lifetime, she worked hard in various capacities, always smiling and humming an old hymn as she went about. Her kindness hallmarked her to all who she crossed paths with. Jean knew no stranger; conversing with her was like chatting with an old friend. Among her many skills, she was a talented seamstress and enjoyed making quilts and embroidery pieces. She firmly believed that any time was always a good time for some ice cream! For her family, that will always bring a smile to their faces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Smith; parents, John Anderson Cox, Sr. and Nannie Bible Cox; brother, Robert (Bob) Cox; sisters, Patricia Sue Jackson and Nancy Cox-Lowe. Jean leaves behind her beloved sons, Nathan and Todd Cox (Christy); three grandsons, Cole, Payton, and Nate Cox; brother, John Cox (Ruth); sister-in-law, Judy Armstrong; brothers-in-law, Herschel Jackson and Tim Lowe; and several nieces and nephews.
