Barbara Jean Durrett, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrand mother and friend, passed away peacefully on Oc tober 17, 2025, at the age of 95. She was born on September 3, 1930, in Holdenville, Oklahoma, to Wilbur and Lucia Green. Barbara’s journey through life was marked by her unwavering faith, deep devotion to her family, and commitment to her community.
A proud graduate of Holdenville High School, Barbara went on to attend the University of Okla homa, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1952 and was a proud member of the OU cheerleading squad. Her passion for teaching led her to become an elementary school teacher, a role she embraced with grace and dedication. While she thrived in her career, her greatest joy came from her commitment as a devoted wife and mother.
While at The University of Oklahoma, on a blind date, she met the love of her life, William E. Durrett. On June 12, 1952, Barbara and Bill were mar ried at the First Methodist Church of Seminole, Oklahoma. Their marriage spanned an extraordinary 73 years, during which they built a legacy of love and support for their family. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Lucia Green, her son, Doug Durrett, and her brothers, Dr. Greg Green, M.D. and Dr. Phillip Green, M.D.
Barbara’s family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her loving husband, William, her sons David Durrett and his wife DruAnne, and Don Durrett and his wife Jackie, as well as her daughter Dianne Attyah and her husband Bob. She was a doting grandmother to her grandchildren: Matthew Durrett and wife Carolyn, Jason Durrett and wife Chelsea, Parker Durrett and wife Jessica, Michelle Whitlow and husband Jeremy, Addison Clark and husband Lyle, Emmily King and husband Ryan, Beau Attyah and wife Caroline, Torrey Attyah and fiancé Jordan, and Trent Attyah. In addition to her grandchildren, Barbara was blessed with the joy of 16 great-grandchildren, who brought her immense happiness and laughter.
Barbara was well known for her involvement in various organizations and community efforts, including her membership in Alpha Chi Omega and the Philanthropic Educational Organization. She was not only a faithful friend but also a graceful leader who inspired those around her through her intentional actions and words. In her leisure time, Barbara found joy in traveling with her loved ones, spending time at Grand Lake and Rancho Mirago. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Barbara will be remembered for her enthusiastic devotion to preserving treasured family traditions.
Barbara’s life will be celebrated at Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City on October 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Wings Special Needs Community, an organization that held a special place in Barbara’s heart or a charity of your choice. Barbara Jean Durrett leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her family and friends
