Barbara Rose Estrin (nee Berry), age 87, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025 at the Ames Family Hospice House in
Westlake, Ohio. Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1937, she was the beloved wife of the late Samuel Mark Estrin; daughter of the late Patrick M. and Ethel L. Berry; dearest mother of Michael J. McCarthy (Barbara Andersen); Patrick M. McCarthy (Kim); and the late Thomas P. McCarthy (Donna); loving grandmother of Elaina McCarthy and Patrick McCarthy; dear sister of Patricia Macina, Regina Hartzell, and Richard Berry (Marge); cherished aunt and great aunt. After her first marriage ended, and with three young boys to raise as a single mother, Barbara began a career in cosmetology as a hairdresser and eventually became an instructor at Continental Academy of Beauty in Willoughby, Ohio. She also worked at Continental Hair Salon in Willowick, (no relation to Continental Academy of Beauty) which became Molly's Studio One when ownership changed. After leaving hairdressing, Barbara worked with her husband Mark at his family's Estrin True Value Hardware store in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, until its closing. Barbara was a skilled artist and craftsperson. She worked in stained glass early on but mainly focused on rug hooking, quilting, and knitting. She also enjoyed competitive trapshooting with her son Patrick and boating with her family in Sandusky on her father's vintage Lyman, the 'Islander.' Collecting antiques was always an interest for her and after retirement from the hardware store, she partnered with Market Square Antiques in downtown Willoughby under her business name Beehive Antiques. After the untimely death of Mark Estrin she moved to Dalton, Ohio to be nearer to her grandchildren. She eventually relocated to Bellville, Ohio where her interest in fiber arts inspired her to volunteer at the Mishler Weaving Mill in Smithville, Ohio and Malabar Farm Spinning and Weaving Guild in Richland County, Ohio. She was also a member of a rug hooking guild in Lexington, Ohio. Barbara will be remembered always for her kindness and will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who knew her.
A celebration of life reception will be held In October in Bellville, Ohio.
