Barbara Field Obituary
Holland Patent
Barbara B. Field, 90, of Holland Patent, passed away on Sunday July 13, 2025, at the Sitrin Home in New Hartford.
She was born on April 26, 1935, in Medina, NY, the daughter of Jay William and Margaret (Shattuck) Blackburn. Barbara was a graduate from Medina High School and then achieved a master's degree from St. Lawrence University in Biology. On June 9, 1956, she was united in marriage to Bruce W. Field in Medina, NY and shared a blessed union of 30 years, until his passing in 1986. Barbara was employed with Holland Patent Elementary School, teaching 3rd, 4th and 5th grades, retiring in 1992. She was a member of Holland Patent First Presbyterian Church, past President of the Retired Teachers Association and served on the Board of Directors as well as President of Glass Hill Golf Club.
Barbara enjoyed playing golf and cross-country skiing in her free time. She also loved to travel overseas to China, Australia, Malta, Germany, Great Britain and to any other countries around the Baltic Sea.
Surviving is her daughter, Patricia Margaret (Steven) Hoffman, Steuben; grandchildren, Andrew (Nicole) Hoffman and Ashley (Michael) Cardello; great grandchildren, Peyton and Kurtis Hoffman and Hunter and Jackson Cardello. She was predeceased by her daughter, Paula Jean Field, son, David Bruce Field and sisters, Margaret Blackburn and Lynne Goodspeed.
Barbara's family wishes to extend their gratitude to Kenisha her care giver at the Sitrin Home for the wonderful care and compassion given to Barbara during her last days.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Memorial Services on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc. 7944 Steuben St in Holland Patent, Friends and family can call one hour prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Interment will be private in Steuben Valley Cemetery.

Mrs. Field's daughter, Patty, is one of my closest childhood friends. I have fond memories of spending time at the Field homes in the village, on Ellis Road, and then in Steuben. Patty and I would spend hours playing tag in the village, dropping from the rope swing into mounds of hay inside the old barn, or sledding behind a snowmobile before being tackled by Cleo the St. Bernard. I'm glad to read that Mrs. Field had time to enjoy travel in her retirement years. Rest in peace, Mrs. Field. You will be missed. Big hugs, Patty. The Pine family is always here for you.

I remember Mrs. Field from when the Fields lived down the street from us for a time, when we were growing up in Holland Patent. Her kids -Paula, David and Patty- were friends with kids in the neighborhood, and are a part of my childhood memories. I was so sad to hear of her passing, Patty, and send my love and condolences to you!
