Barbara Ann Garo, a life-long Beacon resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on February 21, 2024 at the Vassar Brother Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, NY; at the age of 90. She was born in Beacon, NY on September 20, 1933, daughter of the late Arthur & Rachel (Kimbark) Greene. Barbara attended and graduated from Beacon City Schools.
On September 15, 1961 in Beacon, NY, she married Harry Garo, who predeceased her after 46-years of marriage.
Barbara was a member of the American Legion Post 203, Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a former member of the Red Hat Society. She was avid bowler and bingo fan, and she enjoyed many other games.
Barbara is survived by her five children: Robert Pine and his wife Sharon, Corinne Sgorbissa, Lynn Cheever, Toni Cucci and her husband Alex, and Christine Tresaloni and her husband Paul. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren: Melissa & Michael Pine, Lori Dixon, Jennifer Taveras, Mark Cucci, Dennis ‘DJ’ Cheever, and Nicholas Garo; her 8 great-grandchildren & 10 great-great-grandchildren. Barbara was also survived by several nieces & nephews.
Along with her beloved husband, she was predeceased by her two sisters.
Her Family will receive Friends on Monday, February 26 from 3-8PM at the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon. A Celebration of Life will be held at LIBBY FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, February 27 at 11AM, followed by interment to the Fairview Cemetery, 375 Washington Avenue, Beacon, NY. In lieu of flowers her family wishes for memorial donation to be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
