William J. Maxwell, also known as "Max" by those he loved, entered into rest on March 9, 2026. He was 85 years old.

Max was born on April 12, 1940 in Plattsburgh, New York, the son of the late Wyman Maxwell and Dorothy Giroux. He was a proud army veteran, serving from 1961 to 1964 at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base and after his honorable discharge, continued to be an active member of the American Legion. In 1975 he married Carol Williams, and had been by her side for 50 years until his passing. After a move in 1979, and now residing in Newburgh, he was a chef for the United States Military Academy in West Point for 32 years, retiring in 1996.

Along with his wife, Max is survived by his beloved children, George John Gamache, Jr. of Newburgh, Patricia Gamache of New Hampshire, and Wyman William Maxwell of Newburgh; siblings Tommy, Popeye, Dorothy, Monica, Mary and Lucille; grandchildren Brianna R. Gamache of Connecticut, Shaina G. Gamache of New Hampshire.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Max may be made to a The American Cancer Society.
