Barbara Waters Garton, 92, of Virginia Beach, VA, went to be with the Lord on May 13, 2025 at Unity Health, Searcy, AR. She was born October 8, 1932 in Emporia, VA to the late Arthur and Sweeney Waters, and had lived in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area since 1936.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of more than 42 years, John Rector Garton, and her siblings M. Constance Crawford (Franklin), T. Franklin Waters (Edith), A. Harold Waters (Lottie), Marshall Waters (Darlene), and William A. Waters (Lillian).
Left to cherish her memory are children Evelyn Garton Wilson (Larry) and J. Mark Garton (Laurie); grandchildren Rachel Howell (Alan), James Wilson (Kirsten), David Garton (Brianna), and Daniel Garton; great grandchildren Abigail Howell, Ellen Howell, Katherine Howell, Silas Wilson, Heidi Wilson, and Brittany Garton.
Barbara worked as a bookkeeper, church secretary, and homemaker. She was a long time member of the Bayside Church of Christ, Virginia Beach. Barbara loved and was loved by a large community family of church, neighbors, and friends and will be remembered by her generous spirit and the countless lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the Bayside Church of Christ. Arrangements are being handled by the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home.
Visitation is scheduled for 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at the Bayside Church of Christ, 5025 Shell Road, in Virginia Beach. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, VA.
