Barbara Greig Obituary

Barbara J Greig of Vienna, VA passed away on January 13, 2026. Born in Lansing, MI on October 12, 1936 to her parents, Nevels and Margaret Pearson. She graduated with honors from MSU in 1958 with a major in History & Secondary Education and a minor in Sociology. She went to work as a Field Director for the Fair Winds GS Council in Flint, MI. Barbara married David Nobel Greig on Sept. 5, 1959. Together they raised three children; Kathrine, Karen and Charles. In 1961, David accepted a position with the federal government as a foreign service officer, and they moved to the Washington Area. They then spent many years in Central America on assignments. Following their return from assignments abroad, Barbara took a civil service position in the Dept. of State's Child Services' Office. She was a caseworker for international child obduction where she served for 20 years. Barbara was also very active in Vienna Presbyterian Church through the years as a Sunday School teacher, a circle member, a Bible Study Teacher, a Deacon, an Elder and a Stephen Minister. She taught calligraphy for the Adult Ed program for Fairfax County & received an Outstanding Teacher Award. Other interests included genealogy, photography, reading, serving and needlework. Barbara is survived by her children Karen Graziano(Greg Hook) and Charles Greig(Sue). Grandchildren Christopher VanMeter(Vivian), Sean Graziano and Patrick Graziano. Great-grandchildren Luca Klein-VanMeter and Harlee Graziano. Barbara is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Phyllis Gilson, her husband David and daughter Katherine VanMeter. A service celebrating her life will be held at Vienna Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 1 o'clock p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
