Barbara Louise Hanberg

Barbara Louise Hanberg, age 92, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, at her home in Phoenix, AZ, where she was lovingly cared for by her daughter Debbie (and son-in-law Jack, and grandson Cody) for the past 4 years. She is now at peace and in the arms of her Savior.

Barbara was born on September 20, 1933, in Chicago, IL to Oscar and Mary Modrowski. She married the love of her life, John Joseph Hanberg II, on August 20, 1955. They were happily married for 66 years until John passed away in 2022. Together they raised 3 children in LaPorte, IN where she devoted most of her time and talents to her family. She was a kind and unselfish person who loved to serve others more than anything else.

While residing in Chicago in her younger years, Barbara did some modeling and secretarial work. After moving to LaPorte, she was an active member of the LaPorte Presbyterian Church and looked forward to hosting Bridge Club with friends and neighbors. She loved to travel (Hawaii was a favorite destination) and enjoyed playing golf with her husband and children. She was an excellent cook and had a sweet tooth for chocolate - which was reflected in her love for baking delicious desserts.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband John in 2022. She is survived by her children: Tammy Shaw (Doug) of Tucson, AZ, Debbie Carter (Jack) of Phoenix, AZ, and Tom Hanberg of Stanton, CA; and six grandchildren Colin Carter of Las Vegas NV; Cody Carter of Phoenix AZ; Brittany McClain of Vancouver WA; Matt Shaw (Serena) of Chesilhurst NJ; Samuel Shaw of Jacksonville FL; and David Shaw of Flagstaff AZ.
