Mrs. Barbara Hayes Hancock, age 77, peacefully entered into rest on Friday, August 29, 2025, at her home. A funeral service will be held at North Cheraw Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 2:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Mike Williams. The burial service will be private at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Tuesday, prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Hancock was born December 31, 1947 in Bennettsville, SC a daughter of the late Richard P. and Mary Brown Hayes. She was a retired employee of Stanley Black & Decker with over 39 years and enjoyed attending North Cheraw Baptist Church with her family. Barbara enjoyed following Duke Blue Devils basketball, watching wrestling and old detective shows, and was an avid reader, particularly her favorite publication, Enquirer magazine.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hancock was also preceded in death by her sister, Pixie Adams; and brother, Ray Hayes.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Martin L. Hancock of the home; children, Kelly M. (Tim) Wallace of Macclenny, FL, and Paige (Donald) Coates of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Beth Coates, Marlee Coates, and Kayla Wallace; siblings, Richard S. (Nancy) Hayes of Patrick, SC, Billie (James) McLendon of Cheraw, SC, and Johnny (Susan) Hayes of Cheraw, SC; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends including special friends, Taylor (Jonathan) Freeman and daughter, Lily Watford, Sandra Turnage, and Vaughn Flora.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Cheraw Baptist Church, 101 Hartzell Ave, Cheraw, SC 29520, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
