Barbara Ann Herod

Our loving mother, Barbara Ann Herod, of Marietta, Georgia, went home to Jesus on Saturday evening, June 3, 2023, at the age of 89. She died peacefully at Kennestone Hospital while being loved on by her children.
Barbara was born at home on October 13, 1933, in Atlanta, Georgia to Clifford P. and Maude G. McCrary. She spoke often of her childhood where she felt that the world was a simpler and kinder time. She was the only girl and youngest child with brothers, Junior (Clifford), John, Tom, Alvin and Alfred. After graduating from North Fulton High School, she went on to pursue a career as a secretary until her most favored career as a mother started in 1956.
In 1982, Barbara met her best friend, Jesus. He came into her life and she was never the same again. She became a loyal and loving servant of God and, other than her family, He was her everything. Barbara loved sharing God's unceasing love and the need for salvation. She was an extremely generous person who cared so much for people, and wanted to make sure everyone had what they needed. As her faith continued to grow, she became fascinated with God's Word of prophecy and studying the Bible. She was passionate about discussing what she learned about God with everyone and always wanted to learn more.
Barbara was loved by, and will always be remembered by, her children, Debi Sparks (father: Charles T. Power) and her husband Cal Sparks of Indian Land, SC; Chris Herod (father: JC Herod) and his wife, Ali Herod of Duluth, GA; granddaughters, Jen Wetzel and her husband, Brian Wetzel of Fort Mill, SC; Natalie Howie and her husband, Jason Howie of Lancaster, SC; Angelica Holt and her husband Aaron Holt of Duluth, GA; and Faira Herod of Duluth, GA. Barbara was also loved by her great grandchildren Autumn Howie, Max Mildenberger and Elias Howie.
A celebration of Barbara's life will be held Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Mount Paran North, 1700 Allgood Road, Marietta, Georgia 30062 at 1:00 p.m. The family will be receiving guests at the church starting at Noon.
As Barbara loved plants and flowers, and to honor her memory and legacy, the family has requested plants that can be shared among her children and grandchildren for their homes and yards.
