Barbara Anne Coates Hinckley of East Haven, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of John Hinckley.
Barbara was born on August 31, 1950 in New Haven, the daughter of the late Frederick and Shirley Gell Coates. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Jennifer Hinckley (fiancé Jason Stewart) of East Haven and her son Jason Hinckley (fiancée Meredith Krake) and step-grandson Avarey Krake of Springfield, MA; and her brother Thomas Coates of New Haven. She was predeceased by her brothers, Frederick W. "Billy" Coates and David A. Coates.
Raised in Branford, Barbara enjoyed playing softball, fishing, and baking. Barbara and John were married in 1972 and happily married for 53 years. She was always involved in her children's lives as they grew up, never missing her daughter's dance competitions or her son's hockey games. She was happiest surrounded by her family.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday evening from 5:00 - 7:00, with a memorial service at7:00 pm at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford.
