Barbara A. Horton, age 77, of Hilliard, Florida, passed away peacefully in the arms of her husband, Roger Horton, on Oct. 23, 2025 at UF Health North in Jacksonville, Florida.
Born on Oct. 18, 1948 in Nashville, Georgia, Barbara was the daughter of Hallie James Baisden and Juanita Baisden. Raised alongside her brother, James Edwin Baisden, and sister, Mary Marie Baisden, in Hillard, then graduating from Hilliard High School in 1966. Soon thereafter, Barbara graduated from the Florida School of Cosmetology in Jacksonville, Florida in 1967 and was able to make a lifelong career from what she loved best, hairdressing. In 1973, she became a licensed hypnotist, working part time while being a full-time hairdresser.
Barbara married Harold Howell in November 1967. They had a daughter, Whitney Denise Howell, in August 1970. In 1976, Barbara married Doug Presson and moved back to Hilliard after living in Jacksonville for nine years. In March 1981, Doug passed away from cancer.
Barbara spent the month of December 1981 in Hawaii with her mother and her daughter. On Feb. 1, 1982, Barbara married Roger, the final love of her life. Sharing 43 wonderful years together, they never argued, only had disagreements. Together they raised three children, Whitney Denise Bozeman, Meredith Lee Horton, and Mark Lamar Horton. Barbara and Roger started their business together, Horton Services, in 1988.
She was the most God-fearing woman, teaching the word of God to everyone that she could. Barbara loved being with her family, celebrating each holiday and fellowshipping in church every chance she had. She adored her three children, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Barbara lived a wonderful fulfilling life, leaving a lasting impression on each person she encountered.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hallie James Baisden; mother, Juanita Baisden; brother, James Edwin Baisden; sister, Mary Marie Baisden; and granddaughter, Ariana Lea Nash.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Roger Lamar Horton; son, Mark Horton; daughters, Whitney Bozeman (Mark) and Meredith Crawford; grandchildren, Lindsey Mcgee, Kathleen Crane (Jason), Breanna Howell (Jared), Cheyenne Lowther (Jimmy), Wyatt Lowther (Kerrigan), Dakota Dixon, and Kyler Horton; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Brandtley, and Skylar of Lindsey Mcgee, Jocelyn Crane of Kathleen and Jason Crane, and Cooper Howell of Breanna and Jared Howell.
The tribute above was prepared by Barbara's loving family.
