Barbara Jean Jackson 66, of
Norfolk, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at Sentara Leigh Hospital. She was born on November 22, 1959, in
Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Joe Brown, Sr., and Laura L. Jackson.
Barbara was educated in the Norfolk Public School system and graduated from Lake Taylor High School. She later earned her cosmetology license from Anne's Beauty Academy and spent several years working in the hair industry. Following her passion for education, Barbara returned to school, earning an associate degree in general studies from Tidewater Community College before transferring to Norfolk State University, where she received a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies. She continued her educational journey by pursuing a master's degree from Old Dominion University.
Barbara dedicated her career to shaping young minds as a school teacher with Norfolk Public Schools. Her passion for education and her commitment to preparing future generations left an indelible mark on countless lives. She found joy in inspiring her students and nurturing their potential, and she cherished every moment spent in the classroom.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by five brothers, of which two were named Johnny R. Guy, George B. Guy, Joe Brown, Jr., and her twin brother, Bobby Jackson.
Barbara's loving and generous spirit touched many lives. She leaves to cherish her memory her two children, Takita (Percey) Price and Terry (Daeshona) Jackson; three grandchildren, Heavenly Z. Price, Terry A. Jackson, Jr., and Tyler A. Jackson; one brother, Joseph Purvis (Glenda) of Williamston, North Carolina; three sisters, Alice L. Carter of Henrico, Virginia, Evelyn F. Cephas (Jerome) of New Braunfels, Texas, and First Lady Bessie M. Hopson (Pastor James) of Meridian, Mississippi; one bonus daughter, Sherrell Sutton; five bonus grandchildren (NaeQuan, D'Andre, Lemar, Taevion, and Allaxandrea); a special friend, William Earl Cowell; a special niece, Felicia (Richard) Stevens; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other loving relatives, and friends.
The family will host friends and family for a visitation at Altmeyer Funeral Home- Southside Chapel, Friday, January 23rd, 2026 from 3-5 PM. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, January 24th, at the funeral home at 3 PM, with a graveside to follow on Monday, January 26th, at 1 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Though she is no longer with us, the light of Barbara's life will continue to shine brightly in the memories and stories we share. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
