Barbara Alice (nee Maedge) Johnson, age 82, born on December 1, 1941 in Chicago, IL, and entered into rest on June 16, 2024 in her home. She resided in Aiken, SC. Since 1975. She and her husband also had lived in Illinois, Michigan, and Mississippi before moving to South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Jr. and Dorothy Herzog Maegde, of Chicago, IL. And then Mountain Home, AR., her brother-in-law Nicholas H. Priddy of Channahon, IL. She is survived by her beloved husband Robert R. Johnson of 65 years, her son Michael K. Johnson (Madelyn), and her daughter Sheryl (Sheree) A. Johnson Hill, three grandchildren, Kyle P. Johnson, Keith L. Johnson, and Allison R. Hill, her sister Dottie J. Maedge Priddy, nephew Andrew Priddy (Kirsten), and nieces Cindy Priddy Yelich (Michael) and Shannon Priddy, two great-nephews, Michael Yelich and Jack Priddy, and three great-nieces, Moya and Marin Priddy, and Mia Yelich, and many cousins.
When her children were school-age she enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts and assisted in teaching and playing the piano for the 5 year old Sunday School Class at St. John’s Methodist Church in Aiken. Her favorite hobbies had been reading mystery stories and making scrapbooks for her grandchildren and trips she had taken with her husband.
With her experience in accounting and bookkeeping, having worked at the Department of Statistics at Michigan State University, accounting classes at Aiken Tech, and retired from Wade & Co./Elliott Davis in Aiken, she used her skills working as a volunteer with the local Red Cross, and then as a treasurer of her Church Circle 9 and treasurer of the UMW (United Methodist Women) at St. John’s Methodist Church.
Because of her love of dogs and especially her last two German Shepherds, Shadow and Amber, in lieu of flowers please consider donating to the local SPCA, Albrecht Center in Aiken, SC (letlovelive.org) .
Interment will be private, for her family, at Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia, SC., where her in-laws, Roy L. and Gladys C. Rust Johnson are buried.
A memorial service will be held Friday afternoon, June 21st at 1 o’clock in St. John’s Methodist Church’s Chapel with The Rev. Grayson “Butch” Blackwell officiating. A reception will follow the service in Ward Hall.
