Barbara Joyce Johnson, 94, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, January 12, 2026 at the Heartford House. She was born May 26, 1931 in Carmi, Illinois to the late Harry and Katherine Bowen Baker. Barbara was a homemaker and a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she was very active. At one time she had been the president of the church Women’s Missions Group. Barbara had also worked at General Electric and enjoyed sewing walking, and shopping. She also loved playing bunco with her family for many years and cooking for them especially on holidays and special occasions. Another thing she enjoyed doing was all the camping trips with family and friends in the Hillbilly Camping Club.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Hershel on March 28, 2010, a son-in-law, Riley Westerfield on May 3, 2014, and her siblings, Mary Hawkins, Frances Attebury, and Harry Thomas Baker, Jr.
Surviving are her three daughters, Linda Westerfield and friend Johnny Gunterman of Owensboro, Deborah Johnson and husband Mark of Owensboro, and Betty Underhill and husband David of Philpot; six grandchildren, Kathy (Rob) Young, Holly Cavender, and Amy (Mike) Jacob, all of Owensboro, James (Alicia) Lambert and Chad (Amy) Underhill, all of Philpot, and Angel (Nathan) Harrington of Whitesville; 16 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 PM Friday, January 16 at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with entombment following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 11 AM until the time of the service Friday at the church.
