Barbara Jo LaCour age 77 of Spencer, Iowa, formerly of Sibley, IA, died Sunday, May 11, 2025, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa.

The family will be receiving friends on Friday, May 23rd from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23rd, at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley, with Pastor Chris Lemmon officiating.

Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.

Barbara Jo LaCour was born June 29, 1947, in Boyden, Iowa, the daughter of August P. and Phyllis (Muilenburg) LaCour. At an early age her family moved to Hartley, Iowa where she grew up and graduated from Hartley High School in 1966. After graduation the family moved to Clara City, MN. Shortly after Barb moved to Minneapolis, MN, where she lived with a family member and worked at the Methodist Hospital in the housekeeping department.

On June 29, 1968, Barb married Lauritz Loken. They were blessed with a daughter, Kimberly and later a 2nd daughter, Tamara. The family lived in Arkansas from 1978 to 1997, until Barb and Kim moved back to Iowa and lived near her parents, August and Phyllis in Sibley. While living in Sibley she began working at Village Skilled Living as a nurses aid. Barb moved to Hartley in 1998, where she had a wonderful neighbor, Darrell Marble. Barb and Darrell have been together since 1999. In 2014, Barb, oldest daughter, Kim passed. Barb retired from Village Skilled Living, due to failing health.

Barb was a member of First Presbyterian Church is Sibley. She had a mothering nature with everyone she met and provided encouragement and genuine compassion to all. She truly had a servant’s heart.

In the Fall of 2024 Barb and Darrell entered St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa and she remained there until this past Sunday, May 11, 2025.

She is survived by her daughter, Tamara (Andy) Corbett of Corpus Christi, TX; three grandchildren, Shelbie (Brian) Certain, William and Noah Corbett; sister, Marcy (Mark) Gerdes of Montevideo, MN; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Phyllis LaCour; and her daughter Kim Jolene (DeSorbo).
