Barbara Lockman Obituary
Rockaway: Barbara Madeline Lockman (nee Mercuri), age 83, peacefully passed away on January 16, 2024. She was born on May 29, 1940, in Brooklyn, NY, and was a longtime resident of Rockaway, NJ. Barbara was the beloved mother of Steven, Christopher, Lynn, and Michael Jr., and a cherished grandmother to Frederick, Jessica, Brenda, Clayton, Patrick, Connor, Meghan, and Bethany.
Barbara was one of seven children to Rapheal (Frederick) and Anna Mercuri. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters, Andrienne Davis and Bernadette Patterson and her nephew Nicholas Patterson. She is survived by her siblings Patricia Lusardi, Eugene Mercuri, Richard Mercuri, and Raymond Mercuri as well as her grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was a loving presence in the lives of her family, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, and kindness.
After raising her family, Barbara worked as a security guard for many years for Bellcorp and Bell Labs. Barbara loved music. Her hobbies included singing and songwriting. Barbara was an active member of the local chapter of Red Hatters and the Dover Area Senior Citizens Association, where she served as president. Her dedication to these organizations showcased her commitment to the community and her passion for making a positive impact.
In addition to being a dedicated mother, grandmother and aunt, Barbara touched the lives of many with her caring spirit and involvement in community activities. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
A memorial visitation to celebrate Barbara's life will be held 12 Noon to 2pm with a service to start at 1:45pm on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Rett Syndrome Research Trust (https://reverserett.org).
