Barbara Lee Macke passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at age 83, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 1, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Robert J. and Elizabeth C. (nee Courtot) Egan. She married the love of her life, Ernst H. Macke and together they were blessed with four children: Ernie, Beth, Steve, and Gary. Barb and Ernie were married for 62 years. Their years were filled with travel and adventure around the world. They began their married life in California, where Barb supported Ernie’s Naval career, before moving home to Cincinnati.
Barb’s greatest joys in life were her four children. She was devoted beyond measure, always putting her family’s needs before her own. She loved providing home cooked meals, weekend trips at the lake and went above and beyond for every celebration. She was a volunteer at St. Teresa, where her children attended grade school. She helped in the library, attended sporting events and other special occasions. With her children in high school, she went to work for St. Joseph’s Old Cemetery and retired after more than 20 years of service as the office manager.
She was especially proud of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She could be found supporting them at all of their school and athletic events. Whenever they asked her how she was doing, she always replied: “Peachy and Adorable”. Barb embraced her Irish heritage; often filling the house with Irish music and family to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. She shared the luck of the Irish with everyone whom she crossed paths. Above all, Barb modeled her Catholic faith every day in the love that she shared with her family and friends.
Barb is survived by her beloved husband, Ernst H. Macke, her children and their spouses: Ernie (Anne) Macke, Beth (Tom) Perrmann, Steve (Lori) Macke, Gary (Chris) Macke; grandchildren: Sarah, Ernie, and Katie Macke, Kelly (Ian) Preuth, Jason (Lindsay), Jarred (Sam), Jake, and Carly Perrmann, Shea and Ronan Macke, Michael (Gracie) and Josh Macke; great-grandchildren: Logan and Mason Preuth, Bella and Griffin Perrmann, Callie Perrmann, and Gabe Callahan. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Robert J. and Elizabeth C. (nee Courtot) Egan, her sister Patricia A. (nee Egan) Johnson and her niece Lisa M. (nee Johnson) Robisch.
