Barbara Kay Mahowald, 88, of Millville, California, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home on Wednesday, January 22, 2024.
Born in South Dakota, Barbara was the eldest of seven children born to Eleanor and Joseph Mack. She grew up on a farm in Watertown, South Dakota, where she developed a love for animals, cooking, and exploring new places.
Barbara met the love of her life, Marvin, at the Corner Market in Elgin, Oregon. They married in 1999 and moved to a beautiful property in Millville, California, where they cherished countless memories together, enjoying the creek, growing the best tomatoes in California, and sharing their home with their fur babies, Lady, Tippy, and Zoe.
Barbara had five children and six grandchildren. She was known for her vibrant personality, quick wit, and unwavering faith in God. She had an impressive green thumb, finding solace in the beauty of flowers and plants. She loved cooking and baking and was always eager to try new recipes and expand her collection of cookbooks. Barbara also had a passion for retail therapy.
Barbara will be deeply missed by her family, her beloved mini dachshund, Annie, and her siblings, Raymond Raphael, Steve, and Dorothy.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
In the words of Psalm 23, which held a special place in Barbara's heart:
The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want. He makes me lie down in areen pastures. he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of mv enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the davs of mv life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
