Barbara Martin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sosebee Funeral Home on Mar. 26, 2026.
Barbara Jean Martin, age 84 of Rydal, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. She was born on February 2, 1942 in Jackson County, Alabama, to the late Oval and Elzie Black.

Barbara was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who always placed her family at the center of her life. She was a hardworking woman whose life was defined by dedication and resilience, from picking oranges in her youth to serving as a compassionate caregiver, and even breeding her beloved dogs. She did whatever was needed to provide for those she loved.

She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially working in her yard among her flowers and plants, helping tend to the garden, and spending peaceful time at the lake. Barbara had a giving heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Above all, she will be remembered for her selflessness, strength, and the deep love she had for her family. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her legacy of love and care will live on in all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Martin; sisters, Ilene Hollingshead and Helen Black; and brother, Clifford Black.

Barbara is survived by her children, Duane Martin (Jackie), Kenny Martin (Tracy), Melissa Jordan (Douglas), Rodney Martin (Rhonda), Melinda Childers (Dubb) and Joey Mooney (Kim); twenty grandchildren, Shane Martin (Christy), Ashley Mundy (Kyle), Natasha Casey (Phillip), Erika Lemons (Jeremy), Joshua Martin (Maggie), Shannon Vincent, Crystal Hill (Jake), Shawn Jordan (Emily), Kaylee Jordan, Corey Copeland, Eric Martin (Teresa), Tyler Martin (Hannah), Brittany Samaniego (Coty), Bradley Martin (Beka), Matthew Childers (Tiffany), Marcus Childers (Kaitlin), Lexie Childers, Emelia Stone, Gabrielle Oliver (Drew) and Luke Mooney; thirty great-grandchildren, Kayden, Kolton, Raegan, Landon, Audrey, Keagan, Kyler, Finleigh, Jett, Fischer, Kyle, Caitlyn, Coleman, Bryson, Kelsey, Aiden, Harlan, Bo, Maddie, Loren, Collin, Philip, Myleigh, Micah, Rowan, Addison, Aubrey, Houston, Haven-Grace and Thea; sisters, Mary Jo Kennemur (Ruben) and Ruth Harrison; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dottie Williams and Pastor Dubb Childers officiating. Interment will follow in Faith Tabernacle Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, March 28th from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 29th from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
