Barbara Maschek, age 75, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025 at her home in Escanaba.
Barbara Jean Hochleutner was born on January 14, 1950, in Grand Rapids Michigan to Lester and Siama (Helman) Hochleutner. She was the youngest of three children. The family moved to Elmwood Park. Illinois when Barbara was two years old. She enjoyed many summers vacationing in the Upper Peninsula where her mother was born. Barbara graduated from Elmwood Park High School and attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. She worked for many years at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, Illinois. She and her husband Karl Maschek divided their time between homes in Addison, Illinois and Skanee, Michigan. She moved to Escanaba after Karl's passing.
Barbara was artistically talented and applied her skills to ceramics, scrapbooking, and making cards. She loved to crochet and delighted family members and friends by presenting them with baby blankets that were destined to become family heirlooms. Many dogs and even several cats were pleased to become her faithful, loyal, and true companions because she provided them with such loving care over the years.
She is survived by her partner Clint McGuire; her sister in-law Mary Hochleutner; her nephews Michael (Nelya), Brian (Claire), Thomas (Kristen), and James (Alexis) Hochleutner; her niece Susan (John) Szekeres; and fifteen great nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Joan Rathbone, her brother Richard Hochleutner, and her nephew Larry Bank.
Family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone on Saturday, July 26, 2025. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Maschek family.
