Barbara McGreer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carlson Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - Brunswick on Dec. 17, 2025.
Barbara Anne (Schade) McGreer, 82, passed away peacefully at home, Sunday, December 14th, 2025, surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was born April 13th, 1943, in Denver, Colorado and lived in Brunswick for 55 years. She is survived by her children, Sean (Karen), Moira, Michael (Elsa), Kerry (Ron), Katie and Megan; her grandchildren, Ryan (Sydnie), Laura (Sam), Allison (Chris), Amanda (Timothy), Isabel (Alex), Ethan, Evan, Owen, Madeline, Russell and Kara Belle; her great-grandchildren, Amelia, Louisa, Isla, Rory and Scotlyn. In her last days she was comforted by frequent visits from extended family, lifelong friends, and caregivers for both her body and soul.
Barbara graduated magna cum laude from Notre Dame College with a degree in English and additional studies in French. At Notre Dame she continued her significant involvement with Dance, both as a performer and choreographer. After a brief career as a teacher, she began the great work of her life: wife and mother of six children. Barbara wed John in 1966, her anchor for 57 years, giving their six children a loving home filled with fun and her appreciation of the arts. She has returned to John's loving embrace. As her children grew up, she was able to share her lifelong love of dance, teaching ballet to many local children. She worked for the City of Brunswick for decades, touching many lives in the area through the promotion of the Cultural Arts at the Recreation Center. Her strong spirit and devout faith helped her through many challenges, fearlessly facing and beating cancer twice, and her final battle with Lewy Body Dementia. With her own brand of courageous humor, she called it "Huey, Dewey and Louie." She fought the good fight. She finished the race. She kept the faith. She joins her husband John, her father Willard, her mother Blanche, and her brothers Bill and Phil in Heaven. The family will receive friends and relatives Friday, December 19th, 3:00pm - 7:00pm, at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, located at 1642 Pearl Road (1/2 mile south of Route 303), Brunswick, OH. The funeral mass will be Saturday, December 20th, 10:00 am, at St. Ambrose Catholic Parish, 929 Pearl Rd, Brunswick, OH. She will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery, in Valley City, OH immediately following mass. All are encouraged to meet for a meal and remembrance at St. Ambrose following the interment. In lieu of flowers, contributions will be graciously accepted in Barbara's name to any of the following worthy causes close to her heart: St. Ambrose Catholic Parish, Saint Joseph Academy, the American Cancer Society, the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Medina County Right to Life, or the Medina County Arts Council.
