Marjorie Claire (Hanson) McGreer passed away peacefully at home on February 13, 2023.
She was born in Dickinson, North Dakota on February 14, 1933 to Howard and Agnes (Murray) Hanson. Her parents moved west to Seattle with the rest of the Murray family soon after and she grew up there with her sister Dot, surrounded by loving extended family. She graduated from Lincoln H.S., attended a couple of years at the University of Washington, and then worked for Frederick & Nelson's department store in the Fashion department, creating the window displays at 5th and Pine.
On September 21st, 1963 she married George McGreer at The Church of the Epiphany in Seattle, WA with a reception at the Sand Point Officer's Club. Following their wedding they moved to Pensacola, FL where George was a naval flight instructor. There they welcomed their first daughter, Susan. They moved to the San Francisco Bay area when George started flying for Pan Am, and while there welcomed their second daughter, Elizabeth. Finally they settled in Salem, Oregon where Marjorie lived out her life.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church, active in the vestry, teaching Sunday school and singing in the St. Paul's choir for many years, and most recently attending St. Timothy's. She was a devoted wife and mother, holding things together seamlessly while George was away flying. She shared with her girls her love of books, music and theater, the importance of service to others, and the value of traditions. She helped George design and build the house they've lived in for 40+ years. She cherished her friends and family, happily organizing and attending picnics, potlucks, reunions and holiday celebrations, always with a smile on her face. Her sewing machine was always going, and in later years she enjoyed quilting, gifting and donating many beautiful quilts made with love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Dorothy. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, George, and her daughters Susan and Elizabeth (George).
A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Timothy`s Episcopal Church in Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations to the Oregon Humane Society.

When moving to Salem with a toddler and building a house in a new neighborhood I wondered where I would meet friends. It was Marge, who on a wintery day, invited me in for a get-acquainted time and then a raincoat walk to the park with our little kids. She became a most beloved friend. I knew then that I had a warm home in Salem. She was magic with kids. George and Marge were the center of our neighborhood and much loved by everyone.

Marge was a fabulous person. A wonderful family
woman and community member. She was also a
dear friend and is missed.
