Barbara A. Miller peacefully passed away at home on March 19, 2025, aged 77. Born on June 4, 1947, in the Bronx, NY to Henry and Dorothy (Plastino) Vasso, she led a life marked by dedication, love, and unwavering integrity. Barbara survived Breast Cancer twice, twenty years apart, only to finally succumb to Alzheimer's Disease, which gradually stole her brilliant mind, and eventually stole her body over the last years of her life.
Barbara graduated from Immaculate Conception Elementary School and St. Barnabas High School, both in the Bronx, and held Batchelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees from Lehman College. She began her teaching career at PS 87X in 1969. After her daughters were born, she resumed her teaching career at the Holy Rosary School in Hawthorne, NY, before accepting a position at Putnam Valley Elementary School from where she retired after 20 years. Barbara spent her entire career teaching Kindergarten, First and Second Grades. She loved the young children, and they loved her.
Barbara met her husband, William (Bill) Miller in 1967 at Hunter College and they were married in 1970. Together, they raised their two wonderful daughters: Jessica and Lauren. She was a devoted mother and took immense pride in her daughters' accomplishments. Her legacy continues through her beautiful granddaughters: Grace and Cecelia. Being a grandma brought her boundless joy.
Barbara loved being with her family and friends, and was known for her kindness and generosity, which left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. She was always the first to offer support to those in need. Her friends and family remember her as a woman of great character, whose smile could light up any room.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bill and her daughters, Jessica Miller (Bill) and Lauren Batiste (Bill), granddaughters, Grace and Cecelia Batiste. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Day (Peter) and sister-in-law Geralyn Quinones (Charles), a niece, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the team from the Northwell Health Hospice Care Network for their help and guidance through these months, with special thanks to Barbara's nurse, Kimberly Morano, for her wonderful and loving care.
