David Eugene "Dave" Miller, age 86, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, in Littleton, Colorado, with his daughter Cecilie and granddaughter Ruby by his side. Born on November 2, 1939, David lived a remarkable life filled with adventure, dedication, and a deep love for his family and passions.
David earned a degree in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University, exemplifying his commitment to education and hard work. His professional journey was as diverse as his interests. He began his career with Inland Ryerson as a sales engineer, a role that took him and his family to Chicago and later Minneapolis. Ultimately, David prioritized returning to Colorado to be closer to his parents, brothers, and sisters. Relocating with his two daughters, he began working for Elward Incorporated in Denver. After several years of contributing to large-scale projects, David partnered to establish Colorado Metal Walls. The business operated alongside the offices of his father and brothers, creating an environment where family and work intertwined until David's retirement. Notable fact: Earlier in life, he worked as a brakeman on the railroads in Casper, Wyoming, and even obtained a Taxi and Chauffeur license during his time in Minnesota.
David's hobbies reflected his zest for life and connection to the outdoors. A lifelong golfer, he found joy on the greens. He was also a certified sailing and ski instructor who generously shared his skills while embracing the thrill of these activities himself. He cherished hiking in the mountains with his beloved dogs, finding peace amidst nature's beauty. Also, an exceptional dancer with talents spanning disco, country, and swing styles, David moved with grace and enthusiasm.
One of David's most cherished pursuits was participating in paleontological digs with his granddaughter Ruby Louise Pines. Their shared passion for discovery created an enduring bond between them. David took immense pride in Ruby's academic achievements as she approached completing her Ph.D. in paleontology-a dream he had wholeheartedly encouraged her to pursue.
In describing himself as "a plain and simple guy," David displayed characteristic humility. However, those fortunate enough to know him understood there was so much more beneath the surface. Quick to share his warm smile or lend a hand when needed, he was a man of great integrity who deeply valued family and friends. A true gentleman at heart, David left an indelible mark on all whose lives he touched.
David is survived by his sister Marilyn Louise McLaury (Las Vegas) and her husband John; brother Richard Lange Miller (Denver); brother Bruce Pember Miller (Denver) and his wife Donna; daughters Alice Kari Hall (Seattle) and her husband Fraser; Cecilie Louise Miller (
Anacortes, WA) and her partner Brian Taylor; granddaughter Ruby Louise Pines (Bozeman); niece Catherine Louise Lundy (Aurora); nephews Robert Lewis Erwin (Bozeman), William Scott Erwin (Canyon, TX), and Lloyd Rossing (Englewood); along with extended family members Leah Bradley and her two sons Dawson & Reece. And many, many more grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert Dansie; mother Alice Cary; sister Carol Rossing; nephews Bruce Rossing and Marty Rossing; aunt Rose; and his cousin Steve.
David's legacy is one of kindness, curiosity, integrity, and unwavering love for those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held on March 16, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Fairmount Cemetery located at 430 S Quebec Street in Denver. Family and close friends are invited to attend. A celebration of life will follow later this summer.
