Peter Bluvas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Betz, Rossi Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home - Amsterdam on Mar. 10, 2026.
Dr. Peter Jan Bluvas, D.V.M passed away on Thursday, March 5th, 2026, at Saratoga Hospital at the age of 76. Peter was born on April 27th, 1949, in Perth, New York, the son of Peter Bluvas and Gertrude Domblewski. A prominent local veterinarian and community member, Peter married the late Patricia Bluvas on February 14th, 1976. He raised 4 children and went on to found and successfully operate the Adirondack Park Animal Hospital for more than 35 years.

Peter came from humble beginnings. He was raised next door to his grandparents' farm and always remained connected to farming and animals. Becoming a Veterinarian was a natural career choice. He was the first in his family to graduate from college, attending Colorado State University and earning a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the prestigious Cornell University in 1974. After several years of practicing in the Syracuse area-including work with exotic animals at the Syracuse Zoo-Peter opened his own practice, Adirondack Park Animal Hospital, in Gloversville, New York.

Peter was a hard worker, dedicated to his career. Known to many as "Doc," his veterinary work touched the lives of countless pets and families throughout the Fulton-Montgomery community. He was also a farmer at heart and loved spending time outdoors on his farm atop his tractors. "Jan" was a man who knew what he wanted, lived life on his own terms, and loved his family deeply.

He is survived by his 4 children: Peter Jr., Kristin, Erik, and Kara; his 7 grandchildren; and his 3 siblings: Ted Bluvas, Christopher Bluvas, and James Bluvas.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, March 16, 2026 from 5PM to 7PM at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. A funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 11AM at St. Stephens Catholic Church 51 S. Pawling Street, Hagaman. Burial will follow in St. Casimir Cemetery, Amsterdam.
