In Loving Memory of Barbara Anne Wessels Montgomery
October 4, 1949 – May 21, 2025
Barbara Anne Wessels Montgomery, affectionately known as "Grand Bobbie," of
Houston, Texas, went to be with Jesus on May 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on October 4, 1949, in Corpus Christi, Texas, she was the cherished daughter of Lillie and Milton Wessels.
Barbara and her family moved to a dairy farm in Seguin, Texas, when she was just a baby. On the farm, she learned to do chores, always helping her mother, Lillie. She began cooking at an early age and continued throughout her life. She would wander to the chicken house early in the morning to gather fresh eggs for breakfast.
At the age of twelve, Barbara's family moved to Houston. It was there that she met the love of her life, Ray G. Montgomery Jr. Together, they built a warm and joyful home in Jersey Village, where they raised their three daughters-Julie, Lisa, and Jennifer-and created countless treasured memories. Their home was a haven of celebration, filled with laughter, friends, and Barbara's unforgettable gift for hospitality. Her flair for decorating, passion for entertaining, and love of her signature color red and leopard print made her home a place everyone wanted to be.
Barbara's heart and soul were deeply rooted in her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, her family, and her home. She had a green thumb like no other, and her beautiful yard is a living testament to years of love, care, hard work-and even the occasional encounter with poison ivy. Her love of travel took her and Ray around the globe, from Europe and the Middle East to over 30 cruises through tropical destinations, often in the company of dear friends and family.
After Ray's passing, Barbara found comfort and joy in her two beloved dogs, Sophie and Sasha, who remained her loyal companions for over a decade.
Barbara's greatest joy in life was her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of her devoted daughters: Juliana Montgomery Gibbs and son-in-law, Richard Gibbs; Lisa Marie Montgomery; and Jennifer Montgomery Bimeler and son-in-law, Kevin Bimeler. Her legacy lives on in her ten beloved grandchildren-Alyssa, Ryan, Ashley, Nicole, Colten, Jacob, Blake, Nick, Ashton, and Natalie-and her three beautiful great-grandchildren: Rumi, Emory, and Lily.
She is also survived by her two older brothers and sisters-in-law, Wes and Sunny Wessel, and Ronnie and Valentina Wessels; her brother- and sister-in-law, Bill and JoAnn Montgomery; her sister-in-law, Barbara Sutton; and a large extended family and circle of dear friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Ray G. Montgomery Jr.; her parents, Milton and Lillie Wessels; her father- and mother-in-law, Ray G. Montgomery Sr. and Ruby Montgomery; her niece, Pamela Kershner; and her nephew, Timothy Montgomery.
Barbara's life was marked by wisdom, warmth, and unwavering love. She had the rare gift of making everyone feel heard and cherished, often sharing advice rooted in faith and compassion. Her impact will be felt for generations through the many lives she touched. She was always an optimist-never giving up, never doubting that she would be well again. God has a plan for all of us, and today, she is well-cruising around the world with her love, Ray.
