Our beloved mother, Barry Moore, 93, died on February 1, 2026, in
Ogden, Utah. Born Barbara Ann Stafford to Fred and Helen Stafford in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, her family moved to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, when Barry was a young girl. In Grade 11, she met Kenneth Moore, and they married in 1953. Ken and Barry left Canada in 1957 with their young son, Grant, so that Ken could pursue a PhD in Pharmacology at the University of Michigan. It was here that Sandi was born.
After Ken received his doctorate degree, the family moved to Hanover, New Hampshire, where Ken took a faculty position at Dartmouth College. They welcomed their third child, Lynn, and Barry's life as a loving mother was busy, but she continued her interests in her church, politics (she was an early member of the NAACP), and theatre.
In 1966, the family moved to Okemos, Michigan, as Ken took a professorship at the newly established Michigan State University medical school.
After supporting her husband's career, and when Lynn began school, she started a residential real estate career and persevered to become a regular million-dollar producer. In 1983, Barry became the first woman president of the Greater Lansing Board of Realtors, at which time they computerized the Multiple Listing Service. After many successful years in real estate, she formed Barry Moore Inc., her own real estate appraisal firm. A successful business career started as a way to pay for her daughter's figure skating and son's hockey, eventually enabling Barry to treat herself to luxury cars and was one of Verizon's first customers with a car phone.
Barry was always an avid reader, an activity she encouraged for her children, telling them "With a good book, you always have a friend."
Barry was an accomplished golfer, and her love of golf led her to organize and run many golf leagues, doing handicaps and organizing tournaments at Indian Hills in Okemos, Mi and Michigan State University.
She and Ken enjoyed traveling the world together well into their eighties.
They moved to
Ogden, Utah, in 2019 to be near family.
With all her pursuits, Barry foremost was a loving, supportive mother, where there was always a home-cooked meal with dessert on the table.
Barry is survived by her sister Louise Ramsey; son Grant Moore; daughter Sandi Booth, husband Stan; daughter Lynn Moore, partner Greg DeRuiter; grandchildren Shane Moore, Matthew Moore, Helena Gryzenia, Ashley Booth Morton, and Hana Garcia; as well as Daniel DeRuiter and David DeRuiter and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ken (2024), and son-in-law George Gryzenia.
Thank you to the loving staff at Legacy House of Ogden, where she spent her years after Ken died.
No service will be held, and the family requests that those wishing to honor Barry's memory make a donation to Humane World for Animals or the American Brain Foundation.
