Peter “Pete” Humphries Black, of Bountiful, Utah, passed away Friday, February 6, 2026, in Tooele, Utah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy and all 5 of his siblings, Betty, Peggy, Keith, Gloria, and Mike. He leaves behind his two children, Michele Barre (Michael) and Mathew R. Black, four grandsons, one granddaughter, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pete was born in Delta, Utah, the son of Harold J. and Louie Humphries Black. He spent his early years in Delta. In 1950 the family moved to Sugarhouse in Salt Lake area where he delivered newspapers and worked at Spudnuts shop. He also spent summers earning money working at the old hotel up at Jenny Lake, in the Tetons. He graduated from South High School in 1957 and was cast in many school musicals, gifted with beautiful, 2nd bass singing voice. He played varsity basketball and loved the sport. He was 6’5” and good at it. After high school he attended a year of college at the University of Utah and later accepted a call to serve the Northern Far East, Japan LDS Mission where he spent two years. After his mission he took a position at the airport as a baggage handler. He also had a side job of breaking wild horses in Woods Cross, Utah.

He married his love, Nancy Nordquist, on December 4, 1961. He took a new job with the old Frontier Airlines working his way up as a General Sales salesman. He moved his wife and daughter from Salt Lake to Billings, Montana where a son was born. He was appointed to the Montana Aeronautics Board where he acted as translator for the Japanese pilots who were being trained on new aircraft. Later he was transferred with Frontier as a salesman to the cities of Tucson, Arizona, Denver, Colorado, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and St. Louis, Missouri. After leaving Frontier, the family moved to Tempe, Arizona where Pete worked in the hotel industry. He began his own company, “Travel Design” developing brochures for hotels and resorts which later blossomed into a hotel marketing consultant company he called, “Kudo”. He was active in the LDS church as an Elders quorum teacher and Executive Secretary. He was very active in coaching both football and baseball for his son’s teams. In Arizona, his hobbies included landscaping and planting flowers. He was the ‘scone’ maker on many a Christmas morning. He was a member of the Utah National Guard for a time and later in life becoming a car salesman retiring at age 82. He both loved and was deeply committed to his family’s happiness. He was so proud of all his grandchildren and their accomplishments.

Upon cremation, graveside services will be held at a later date, at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. We wish to express our gratitude to the RM Willow Springs Rehabilitation for all the wonderful care they gave to our father.
